Dr. Swait's original training was in Transportation Engineering, a subfield of Civil Engineering. After obtaining his doctorate in transportation demand modeling, he became interested in marketing. In recent years, he has concentrated his attention on issues related to choice modeling in marketing.

Clients are telecommunication companies, airlines, various government agencies dealing with recreation and resource management, as well as marketing research companies. Projects involving choice analysis, market segmentation, brand equity assessment and other topics of marketing relevance.

Senior Associate. Technical consultant to staff and clients in the development of market research studies: research definition, survey design, sampling, data preparation and analysis. The operation involved a throughput of about 10,000 metric tons/month with a total of 150 employees, covering the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, Distrito Federal, Goias, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Rondonia and Amazonas (in all, an area covering more than 50% of Brazil and including about 50% of its population). Also responsible for freight rate negotiations with trucking companies.

Consultant to execute a project entitled "Characterization of Short-Run Logistical Decisions in Industrial and Commercial Companies", in which the interrelationship between transport mode choice and shipment size was examined through the simultaneous estimation of a discrete logit mode choice model and continuous shipment size model based on an inventory-theoretic approach.

Worked on a project entitled "Research on the Interrelationship Between Highway Construction, Maintenance and User Costs", jointly funded by the Brazilian Government and the United Nations Development Programme, with the technical cooperation of the World Bank. Especially involved in the statistical analysis of fuel and speed experiments and user cost survey.
