bulletAny source of choice data has its own set of peculiarities and characteristics. For example, Revealed Preference (RP) choice data (which are actual decisions made in the market) have high face validity and embody constraints (e.g. income, distribution). On the other hand, it is very common for this data to exhibit high colinearity among explanatory variables in statistical models of choice behavior. Stated Preference (SP) choice data, in contrast, is collected in hypothetical decision contexts, but under highly controlled conditions as far as the independent variables are concerned.
bulletMorikawa (1989) began a research stream into the means to combine multiple choice data sources so as to exploit the strengths and mitigate the weaknesses of each.
